Step into a folktale昔話の中へ

Old Japanese folktales are woven into the town, waiting to be found. Here are two to start with. Find one, and you step inside the story as a storyteller tells it. You can play a tale again from the same place.町のあちこちに、日本の昔話がとけこんでいます。まずは、この二つから探してみてください。見つけると、語り手が語る物語の世界に入れます。お話は、同じ場所から何度でも遊べます。

Urashima Tarō: find the crane by the sea浦島太郎：海辺の鶴を見つける

A crane is hiding in a small cove past the lighthouse at Shirahama Beach. It leads you into the tale of Urashima Tarō, the fisherman who visits the palace under the sea.白浜海岸の灯台の先、小さな入り江に鶴がかくれています。鶴が、海の底の竜宮城をたずねる漁師のお話「浦島太郎」へ案内してくれます。

How to get there · 行き方

  1. Take the train from Hidamari Station to Shirahama. The bus goes there too.ひだまり駅から電車に乗って、白浜へ行きます。バスでも行けます。

  2. Walk east along the beach to the 灯台 (lighthouse) sign, then follow the path south to the lighthouse.浜辺を東へ歩き、「灯台」の看板から南へ進んで、灯台まで行きます。

  3. Just east of the lighthouse, take the stone stairs down the cliff.灯台のすぐ東にある石段を、がけの下まで下ります。

  4. Walk toward the bushes at the back of the little beach.小さな浜の奥にある茂みのほうへ歩きます。

When you find it · 見つけたら

Talk to the crane to begin the tale. It takes about 15 minutes.鶴に話しかけると、お話が始まります。15分ほどのお話です。

Kasa Jizō: find the statues in front of the shrine笠地蔵：神社の前のお地蔵さんを見つける

Six stone Jizō statues stand in a row below the steps of Hinata Shrine. One of them begins Kasa Jizō, the tale of an old man who gives his straw hats to the statues in the snow.日向神社の石段の下に、六体のお地蔵さんが並んでいます。そのうちの一体から、雪の中のお地蔵さんに笠をかぶせてあげる、おじいさんのお話「笠地蔵」が始まります。

How to get there · 行き方

  1. Leave Haru's house and go out into Midorigaoka.春の家を出て、緑ケ丘に出ます。

  2. Walk north up the slope road to the edge of town. It takes you to Hinata Shrine.坂道を北へのぼって町のはしまで行くと、日向神社に着きます。

  3. Walk west along the lane below the red torii gate. The statues appear as you get close.赤い鳥居の下の道を西へ歩きます。近づくと、お地蔵さんが見えてきます。

When you find it · 見つけたら

Look at each statue. The one with the patched towel begins the tale.お地蔵さんを一体ずつ調べてみてください。つぎはぎの手ぬぐいのお地蔵さんを調べると、お話が始まります。

Sit down and watch the town座って、町をながめる

Around town, there are places where you can sit down and take a break (ひと休み). The place then runs by itself: people come in, order, chat, pay and leave, and you hear every conversation. It's a relaxed way to hear lots of everyday Japanese.町には、座ってひと休みできる場所があります。座ると、その場所がひとりでに動きだします。人が来て、注文して、おしゃべりをして、お会計をして帰っていきます。その会話が、ぜんぶ聞こえます。ふだんの日本語を、のんびりたくさん聞けます。

How to take a break · ひと休みのしかた

  1. Find a seat with a steaming cup over it and tap it. With a controller or keyboard, stand next to it and press A or E.湯気の立つカップのマークがついた席をタップします。コントローラーやキーボードでは、席のとなりで A か E を押します。

  2. Tap someone talking in the background to read their conversation.うしろで話している人をタップすると、その会話を読めます。

  3. To stand up, tap the door button (or press A or E) and choose やめる (stop).立つときは、ドアのボタン（または A か E）を押して、「やめる」を選びます。

The café, the mart and the station are all around the station plaza (ひだまり駅前), at the east end of the Sakura-dōri shopping street. The bus from Midorigaoka goes there too.カフェ、ひだまりマート、駅は、どれもさくら通りの商店街の東のはしにある、ひだまり駅前にあります。緑ケ丘からバスでも行けます。

Go to the walkway along the south side of the station plaza. The café is just left of the bookshop (本屋).駅前広場の南側の歩道へ行きます。カフェは、本屋のすぐ左にあります。

Hidamari Martひだまりマート

Mio works the register while the manager, Ishii, restocks and fries snacks. People come in for coffee, the ATM, parcels and more.レジには美緒さん、店長の石井さんは品出しや揚げ物。コーヒー、ATM、宅配便など、いろいろな用事でお客さんが来ます。

Go to the south-west corner of the station plaza and enter under the ひだまりマート sign.駅前広場の南西のかどへ行き、「ひだまりマート」の看板の店に入ります。

Trains come and go with announcements. Passengers buy tickets, meet and say goodbye, and some regulars tell their stories over several visits.アナウンスとともに電車が行き来します。きっぷを買う人、待ち合わせる人、見送る人。何度か通うと、自分の話をしてくれる常連さんもいます。

  1. Take the stairs down into the station from the plaza (地下のホーム).駅前広場から階段（地下のホーム）を下りて、駅に入ります。

  2. Go left (west) into the glass waiting room (待合室).左（西）へ進み、ガラス張りの待合室に入ります。

The seat is the end of the bench nearest the waiting room door.席は、待合室の入り口にいちばん近い、ベンチのはしです。

Keep listening with the screen off画面を消しても、聞きつづける

iPhone · Android

On iPhone and Android, Hidamari keeps playing when you lock the screen or switch to another app, so you can listen on a walk or while you cook.iPhone と Android では、画面をロックしても、ほかのアプリに切り替えても、ゲームが続きます。散歩や料理をしながら聞けます。

It works during full auto (オート → フル) and watch mode.フルオート（「オート」→「フル」）か、ひと休みの間に使えます。

Lock the screen · 画面をロックする

The voices and the story keep going. The lock screen shows the line that is playing, with play and pause.声と物語は、そのまま続きます。ロック画面には今のセリフが表示され、再生と一時停止ができます。

Picture in picture · ピクチャー・イン・ピクチャー

Tap the picture-in-picture button, left of オート. A small window shows who is speaking and what they say, over your other apps.「オート」の左にある、ピクチャー・イン・ピクチャーのボタンをタップします。話している人とセリフが小さな画面に表示され、ほかのアプリの上に重なります。

On Android, going to the home screen during full auto opens the window too.Android では、フルオート中にホーム画面へ戻っても、小さな画面が開きます。

Sleep timer · タイマー

The timer in 設定 (Settings) stops full auto after 15, 30 or 60 minutes.「設定」のタイマーで、15分、30分、60分後にフルオートを止められます。

Controls操作

Open メニュー (Menu) → 地図 (Map) to see the whole town. From the map, you can travel to any place you have already been.「メニュー」→「地図」で町全体を見られます。一度行った場所には、地図から移動できます。
