Hidamari Town Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 19, 2026
Policy URL: https://acorntalk.com/hidamari/privacy
Acorn Talk LLC ("Acorn Talk," "we," "us," or "our") makes the game Hidamari Town (ひだまり町) for iPhone, iPad, Android, and computers (the "Game"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you play the Game.
Tango, Lens, Acorn Talk accounts, and our website are covered by the Acorn Talk Privacy Policy.
The short version
You can play the Game without an account. The Game sends us usage information so we can see how people play it and keep it working. It does not show ads, and we do not sell your information.
Pairing the Game with an Acorn Talk account is optional and free. When you pair, the Game sends the words you save to your account, and it keeps your saves in your account unless you turn off save sync. We use this information to provide those features and to support and improve the Game.
The Game does not ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or photo library.
1. Information the Game keeps on your device
The Game keeps your progress and save points, pictures of the game screen for your saves, bookmarks and playthrough names, a short log of recent dialogue, your settings and key bindings, the words you save, and logs that help with support. If you pair the Game, it also keeps a device key that links this device to your account.
Your device's backup or cloud service can copy this information under that service's own terms. To delete it, delete the Game from your device. On a computer, you can also delete the Game's save folder.
2. Usage information
The Game sends us information about how it is used, such as when you start and stop playing, how far you get, which settings you use, errors and crashes, your type of device and system, the Game version, and a random identifier for your copy of the Game. If you pair the Game, we can link this information to your account.
We use usage information to see whether people are playing, understand how they play, find problems, and improve the Game. We do not use it for advertising. Usage information goes to our own servers and to PostHog, which provides our analytics.
3. Pairing with an Acorn Talk account (optional)
To pair, the Game shows a short code. You sign in on the Acorn Talk website and enter the code there. You never type your password into the Game.
When you start pairing, the Game sends a device identifier, a device name such as "ひだまり町 (iPhone)", the type of device, and the Game version. It sends them even if you do not finish pairing. Like any internet service, our server also receives your IP address and the time of each request.
Saved words. The Game sends each word you save, the line it came from, the Game version, and the device it came from. Tango keeps these words with your account so you can study them in your browser.
Save sync. Save sync is on when you pair, and it has its own setting. After pairing, the Game asks whether to add the games on your device to your account. Whichever you choose, the Game then keeps your saves in your account. It sends your save points, progress, recent dialogue log, pictures of the game screen, playthrough names, bookmarks, player settings, play time, and the Game version. You can keep your saves and continue on another device. The pictures show only the game screen; the Game does not open your photo library.
To limit storage, we keep your latest saves, bookmarks, and important points such as chapter starts, and we remove other older save points over time. Each account can store up to 100 MiB of saves.
You can turn off save sync and keep saved-word sync. To stop both, unpair the Game in its settings. Turning off sync or unpairing does not delete information we already have. To delete it, see Section 6.
4. Feedback reports
Some versions of the Game, such as test versions, have a button for sending feedback. It works only when the Game is paired, and it sends a report only when you choose to send one.
A report contains your comment and any tags or marks you add; a picture of the screen and a short series of pictures from the last few seconds of play; your save and the state of the Game; recent game events; your device model, graphics, and screen information; the Game version; recent lines from the Game's log; and your device and account identifiers.
We use reports to find and fix problems and to improve the Game. We may make a private page that shows you your own comment and pictures, at an address that only we give to you. We keep reports while they help us improve the Game. You can ask us to delete a report.
5. Who receives your information
We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. Our hosting and backup providers store the information the Game sends, and PostHog receives usage information. We read feedback reports, support messages, and, when needed for support or troubleshooting, saves. We may use AI tools from providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI to help us read them.
Saved words in Tango are handled under the Acorn Talk Privacy Policy, like other Tango study material. That policy also explains when we may disclose information for legal reasons, for security, or in a business transfer.
You get the Game from the App Store, Google Play, or Steam. These stores handle downloads, any payments, and reviews, and they collect information under their own privacy policies. We receive only the reports that the stores give to all developers, such as download counts and crash reports.
6. Your choices and rights
You can play without pairing, turn off save sync, unpair at any time, and choose whether to send feedback. To ask us to stop collecting usage information from your copy of the Game, email us.
To see, correct, or delete the information the Game sent us, or to delete your Acorn Talk account, email legal@acorntalk.com from your account's email address. Deleting information may not remove it from backups until they expire or are replaced. The rights described in the Acorn Talk Privacy Policy, including appeals and complaints to a regulator, also apply to the information the Game sends.
For processing subject to EEA or UK data-protection law, Acorn Talk LLC is the controller. Pairing, saved words, and save sync are features you ask for, so we rely on contract performance for them. We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the Game for usage information and for feedback reports that you choose to send, and we ask for your consent first where the law requires it. We operate from the United States, and the Game's information is stored there and where our providers operate.
7. Children
The Game does not ask for your name, email address, or other contact details unless you pair it with an Acorn Talk account. Pairing and feedback need an Acorn Talk account, and the Acorn Talk Terms of Service say who can make one. Contact us if you think a child has paired the Game without the permission it needs.
8. Changes
If we change the Game in a way that changes this policy, we will update this page and the date above before the change reaches you, and we will ask for consent where the law requires it.
